The several states are those basic entities that are themselves “united” to form a “union” of states. Since 1789, these legal entities have been steadily diminished to a point at which they are generally viewed as mere outposts of the Federal Government. This is a major failure, and needs to be addressed.
GOALS
- Each State is a sovereign political entity in their own rights. This is a Union of such states. They may join themselves to the Union, or seceded peacefully from it. Upon peaceful secession, no military action shall be taken against them by the Union, and all Union troops and personnel may leave peacefully without threat of harm. No Union vessel shall enter the waters, airspace, or territory of any seceded state without permission.
- States may call a Constitutional Convention, designating a limited purpose, beyond which such convention may not go.
- Define “states rights” more fully than does the 1788 Constitution, and write in some “teeth” by which the states may protect themselves from Federal overreach.
- Protect the sovereignty of each state on issues outside of what actually joins them together in union.
- Protect the citizens rights in each state by mandating that the state constitutions adopt the same human rights listed in the Pelham Constitution.
- Give the states investigative powers over the Federal Government.
- Return the US Senate to state control by making senators the appointees of the individual state legislatures. Give the states the right to dictate how their senators will vote, and to withdraw their senators at will, for any cause, upon a majority vote of the State Legislature.
- Revert all federal land holdings to the states in which they lie.
